Finding the right size and shoe size for baby shoes

Choosing the right shoe size for your baby is essential to support the growth of their feet, ensure their comfort and promote proper motor development. Kiabi helps you find the right size and choose the ideal pair.

How to measure baby's foot?

To find the ideal baby shoe size, it is recommended to measure their feet regularly, as they grow quickly: 1. Place your child's foot flat on a sheet of paper or use the Kiabi foot gauge;
2. Ensure the heel is firmly against a wall;
3. Draw a line in front of the longest toe, then measure the distance between the wall and this line;
4. Repeat the process for the other foot, and use the longest measurement.

How to find the right shoe size for baby?

Once the foot length is measured, refer to the correspondence table to choose the right shoe size. It is advisable to leave a margin of 0.8 to 1.2 cm between the big toe and the tip of the shoe to allow the foot to move without being compressed.

11.1 18 6 to 9 months

12.4 20 12 to 15 months
13.1 21 15 to 18 months
13.7 22 18 to 21 months
14.4 23 21 to 24 months
15.1 24 2 years
15.7 25 2 and a half years

It is important to note that these correspondences are averages and may vary slightly depending on the brands.

How to ensure you get the right shoe size?

Here are six tips to follow to avoid choosing the wrong size when selecting shoes for your little one:
1. Try on shoes at the end of the day: feet tend to swell slightly during the day;
2. Test the fit: make sure baby can move their toes freely inside the shoe;
3. Check the size regularly: baby's feet grow very quickly! Check the size every 2-3 months at the beginning;
4. Prefer flexible and lightweight shoes, adapted to the shape of baby's foot;
5. Avoid second-hand shoes that are already worn out or misshapen;
6. Always leave a little room: check that you can fit a finger between the heel and the shoe.
